Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream
adapted from the Chocolate-Peanut Butter Ice Cream in The Perfect Scoop by David Lebovitz
yield: ~1 quart
2 c. half and half
1/4 c. unsweetened Dutch process cocoa powder
1/2 c. sugar
pinch of salt of course I used sea salt
1/2 c. smooth peanut butter
5 circles of Pillsbury Simply...Peanut Butter cookie dough, frozen & chopped
1/3 c. peanut butter chips (overkill, yes...but good)
Whisk together the half & half, cocoa powder, sugar and salt in a large sauce pan.
Heat the mixture, whisking frequently, until it comes to a full, rolling boil (it will start to foam up...so keep an eye...it'll overflow quickly)! Remove from the heat and whisk in the peanut butter, stirring until thoroughly blended.
Chill the mixture thoroughly, then freeze it in your ice cream maker according to manufacturer's instructions.
At the point the mixture has begun to thicken in your ice cream maker (~10-15 mins.), add these beauties in!
Eat it right away for a soft-serve-like consistency.
Or transfer to a container and put in freezer until ready to scoop out and enjoy!
So yes, definitely use some of the cookie dough in ice cream if you're a fan of the raw stuff...it was deeeeee-licious!
On a separate note, can I tell you how much I love the new Ice Cream Maker (like that, only black) I recently bought on clearance ($15.00!) at Walmart. This one only requires me to put the bowl in the freezer. My old one needed ice and salt and it was just plain annoying to use...which is probably why I only used it twice...yeah, 2x! That's it. I mean, maybe I'm just lazy, but sheesh...anybody want it (after that glowing review)?? I'd be willing to trade for some foodie-ish thing that you don't love and need to keep. Email me & let me know if ya wanna trade something fun (click on "old one" to see what it looks like. Perfect condition...only used 2x...like I said, I'm just lazy).

What a sumptuous ice cream!!! Peanut butter and chocolate are best friends, am luving ur ice cream!!!
Mmmmm delicious!
I think I know what I want to make on Sunday with friends...and it has chocolate in it! This is a total yum!
When it comes to PB, there is no such thing as overkill!! I REALLY REALLY wish I had some of this right now......anyway you could fedex it up to Canada?
YUUUUUMMMMM!!!
Congrats to the winners! YAY!!!
OH MY GOD!!
Three things I love: chocolate, ice cream, and cookie dough. WOOHOO!!
You are too good! What an awesome flavor! We have one of the old fashioned kind that take the ice and salt. I didn't know there was a different kind that you just stick in the freezer. How easy is that!
Love the idea of using cookie dough in the ice cream! The ice cream looks scrumptious.

Peanut butter, chocolate and cookie dough?!?! Sounds like a little scoop of heaven to me.
PERFECTION!!! You have inspired me to check out Walmarts ice cream makers. I threw mine out years ago (a pain in the neck).
Rock salt and ice cubes are SO last decade! I love my Cuisinart and found one someone didn't want for $20. Your find is a steal at Walmart~ good job!
This recipe looks almost as good as the salted butter caramel. You have to make it next!
I love chocolate and i love peanut butter...and the 2 together is sooo damn good!! I NEED, seriously NEED (not just want) an ice cream maker. and I want one like the one you have. those ice and salt ones are just...a pain. I mean, they're fun ....the first time. but then I'm over it.
Congrats to the winners!!!
That is definitely my kind of ice cream. I wish I had an ice cream maker -- but also not, since the nutritional quality of my meals would seriously decline.
See, I look at posts like this and think I should make my own ice cream (it looks so good) but then I think the novelty would wear off and the ice cream maker would be a dust collector in my house...hmmmm what a quandry to be in - the ice cream really does look delicious!
this is so rich I could smell the chocolate all the way in NY...I would trade you for that behemoth but I would need to rent a garage to keep it in...LOL
I never understood the raw cookie dough thing, but the ice cream does look good.
Congratulations to the winners! How fun!!
You're killing me with that ice cream!

Wow, looks decadent! Love it. So you can eat cookie dough without baking it? How come?
...Mia- I don't know really. Because it's something I've always done since I was little...sneaking pinches from the bowl....eating it from the tube once they starting making it a "convenience" item...but most of all because it is delicious :D
